Sharpening leadership effectiveness at executive level

About

University of Copenhagen is one of Northern Europe's leading research institutions, operating in a complex, decentralised environment where leadership clarity and alignment are critical to performance.

Situation

As Vice Director of Group Finance, leading an organisation of 130 employees, the executive operated in a role where leadership visibility and clarity directly influenced organisational effectiveness.

The challenge was not capability - but precision: how to lead with greater clarity, visibility, and impact across a complex organisation.

Without this, the risk was clear - inconsistent leadership signals, reduced alignment across teams, and missed opportunities to strengthen organisational performance.

Approach

We designed a focused executive coaching engagement with one objective: strengthening how leadership is expressed and experienced in practice.

The work centered on three elements. Leadership awareness and clarity - creating insight into leadership patterns, strengths, and impact. Translation into behavior - converting insight into concrete shifts in day-to-day leadership. Application in real situations - ensuring leadership changes were visible in decisions, communication, and interactions.

The focus was not reflection alone - but changing how leadership shows up across the organisation.

Impact

Greater leadership clarity and presence. The executive operated with clearer direction, stronger visibility, and more intentional leadership.

Improved decision-making and alignment. Greater clarity translated into more consistent decisions and stronger alignment across teams.

Stronger organisational leadership. Leadership was experienced more consistently, improving effectiveness across the function.

Sustained behavioral change. Insights were embedded into daily leadership practice - creating lasting impact beyond the engagement.

"I gained significant value from the process. It created clarity and strengthened how I lead in practice."
